This work is based on a thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Education with a concentration in Mediation Pedagogical University De La Salle, San Jose, Costa Rica, in 2007.

This is a proposal on how education can provide answers to key current issues that affect not only the Costa Rican society, but much of the planetary community, such as discrimination and violence based on gender, sex, ethnicity , sexual orientation, nationality and / or religion, the overexploitation of natural resources, global warming and the destruction of the biosphere, among others.

The basic approach is to develop a conscience based on the recognition of subtle or transcendent dimensions of human beings from a nonreligious perspective. In relation to this issue develop the concepts of holistic consciousness and ecological awareness.

Written based on the main contributions that the so-called "frontier science" provide Educational Sciences (Neuroscience Biopedagogía, Transpersonal Psychology, Energy Sciences and the subsequent developments in quantum physics, among others), the text attempts to resize the importance and potential in our day educational event, designed as one space where you can gestate attitude change or transformation of human consciousness necessary for us to see into the future with optimism and determination.


Brief summaries of chapters of the book

I. Biopedagogía Sacred: Based on the Biopedagogía, testing a relationship with the Energy Science and Transpersonal Psychology and suggests how the educational act must understand, to be comprehensive, integrated, meaningful and transcendental dimension or noetic-deep sense of life-the human being.

II. New paradigm and education: It is designated as the educational system now conveys a worldview grounded in the "old paradigm of science": the Newtonian - Cartesian, and how this worldview, which deprives the transcendental meaning to our lives affects our health integral, which is the basic condition for a meaningful and transformative learning. It is argued that through the expansion of consciousness of the students towards the recognition of his transcendent dimension is feasible to transform the prevailing worldview, and with this, create the conditions for the search for new answers to the main problems we face as a planetary community.

III. Principles and values ​​for a new education: It has addressed the importance of creativity in the educational act according to the ideas from the new paradigm, in terms of recognizing the human potential to transform both itself and its global environment. It is a proposal for how the values ​​that emerge with the new paradigm could become parameters for a more respectful and harmonious coexistence between human beings and between them (as) and their natural environment.

IV. Education for a holistic view of reality: This chapter highlights the importance of the expansion of consciousness and the development of other qualities of the same intuition, creativity, complex thinking and ecological thinking, for example, as a way to supplement and substantially transform the potential in educational content as a means to generate an awareness of planetary unity. Narrated as a tale, contains many of the most important contributions to the theme from the Perennial Philosophy, Transpersonal Psychology and Neurophysiology holographic models based on, among others.

V. Biopedagogía and learning: It redefines the traditional concept of learning within the Biopedagogía, and reflects on the possibilities of the educational act from this perspective conceived primarily in terms of two concepts proposed in this work: the spectrum of learners and sources of learners, from the hand of the contributions offered in this connection Energy Sciences.

VI. Pedagogical mediation: The primary objective of this methodology is to link in a critical, emotional, and through a process of humanization-recognizing the dimensions of the human in humanity itself, the / a learner with their surrounding reality, with the purpose of generating them / as deep and abiding commitment to contribute to improving both individual and group conditions and collective. They perform a series of contributions and proposals to the same grounded in a reading of the main educational needs has our country and probably Central and Latin American societies, and are incorporated as keystones to this methodology, to address the contents of educational curriculum, the three dimensions of human experience: personal-contextual, personal-noetic collective / transpersonal.

VII. Pedagogy of the XXI Century Learning: Based on an approach to some of the main problems we face as a country and as planet, they suggest a number of pedagogical principles to address them: the recovery of the biology of love (a term coined by Humberto Maturana) as evolutionary principle, transformational learning, a broader understanding of the nature and transcendent human principles Matristic own culture and planetary networks learning as a strategy to generate an awareness of planetary unity.

VIII. Society, economy and education: It is proposed that the current economic behaviors are, at least in part, conditioned by the nonsense that generates the dominant worldview. Under the concept of "an economy to life," suggests how a new product worldview of environmental awareness can help create a new set of economic behaviors and policies that ultimately, stop the destructive maelstrom expanding neoliberal capitalist model .

IX. Education and sustainable development: This chapter explores the potential of human beings as co-creator / a natural environment. We discuss some of the most important principles for an "eco-pedagogy" hand in hand with the contributions that the Holy Biopedagogía provided in this regard. We propose a new social pact for the protection and promotion of biodiversity in terms of sustainable development, based on a new ethic of spiritual or noetic not religious.

X. Virtual Education: After pointing out some of the limitations of the ideas from the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Artificial Life (Life-A), and raise the importance of considering the full spectrum of human learners, it is proposed concept of "Virtual Learning Communities" in terms of some of its potential self-organizing principles and teaching resources.

XI. Education, health and life: Based on the contributions that quantum physics makes the understanding of bio-molecular processes, and the concept of liquid crystalline structures from the most recent advances in the field of Fisioanatomía, establishing a relationship between the dominant worldview and its impact on our overall health, incorporating the understanding that from the standpoint of the Energy Sciences is made ​​of this phenomenon and its relation to learning conceived as a vital phenomenon. According to these ideas, life and learners are essentially the same process.

XII. Art in Education: sizing the importance of creativity in educational to arise for a non-ordinary state of consciousness from which we are able to grasp new fields of meaning, order and structure to think of them as possible, and how this can become the principle of novel ways of visualizing the world. Sizing the political potential of art as a resource in the context of pedagogical mediation.

XIII. Education and gender equity: It is reconsider the concepts of ego, identity, gender identity and sacred part of our worldview patriarchal in nature, and then propose an ontological and ontogenetic dimension to masculine and feminine principles in the perspective of the Taoist philosophy. Through the concept of Transpersonal Humanist Society, states and through overcoming female duality - male, in the order of an expanded consciousness to higher levels of integration, it would be possible to promote a more equitable and harmonious society. To this end it proposes, among other things, the recovery of the best female archetypes and the review and update, from the collective consciousness of the dominant male today.
