An Education for the New Era
Drastic changes transform society in education
• Urge values and awareness
• Education exerted not only in the classroom but at home and elsewhere, must change in order to reverse the current crisis

Gone are the respect, solidarity and honesty to make way for the values that govern society today: consumerism, superficiality and indifference, this has meant that the world is in the midst of a severe crisis that can leave only if people make profound changes in his being.
This transformation can be achieved at once by education, not only what is taught in the classroom but also at home and other settings changes, and the need to promote a break of paradigms to restore respect for life and differences that all humans possess and that makes our planet so diverse.
This is just part of the main proposal made by the psychologist, Master of Science in Public Health and Doctor of Education, Erick Quesada Ramirez in his book "An Education for the New Era."
It is a deep analysis on how education can currently provide valid answers and alternatives to the main problems afflicting the Costa Rican society and the entire planet, as are the different expressions of social violence that have caused grief in human relations.
Issues
Discrimination on grounds of gender, sex, ethnicity, social class, nationality or religion, are some of the causes that lead individuals to engage each other bloody attacks, but the hatred that exists beyond the destruction of the environment as is also a reflection of the prevailing violence in people.
"We live in an unbalanced social system, built on the differences and characterized by great contrasts, we can not talk about respect and solidarity as a society if we are full of stereotypes and reinforcing violent behavior. More background is the great paradigm of materialism which consume and accumulate power are the values that govern, "said Quesada.
Therefore, it is a fact that education as such is not giving the desired results, hence it is necessary to first make changes in teaching and creating more and better awareness among people from small and transformations are being met on a personal level which gradually manifest themselves in society.
"If you add shifts and changes, whether they are small and personal level, it will generate a multiplier effect. Promoting a new awareness might think that we have the basic tools in the different areas in which we live make changes, we must understand that we are not just an isolated body of others, we need to expand awareness and recognize the profound brotherhood that binds us and that should prevail among human beings, "he said.
Teachings
For Quesada, traditional education is not responding to many of the issues facing the global society, therefore, there is a need to make a proposal that is intended to provide solutions to the conflicts that arise in society, especially by the violence that exists.
"What we see is that while the intention may be other education often falls into the role of reproducing the values we have at this critical point as a society. A contribution is made to try to discover the educational potential offered by these spaces and thus pose a different conception of human beings, "argued the specialist.
Quesada said that people are conditioned by a materialist worldview which does not permit mechanistic develop the values that really should be present, therefore, the new paradigm consists of a more green and organic with the understanding that all beings humans are linked to their surroundings.
"In the previous paradigm is rigid and all things are perceived and separate world from that awareness is difficult to promote sustainable change. To which you bet is that if we create a greater awareness of environmental integration is likely that human beings, seeing ourselves as part of a whole, we go making changes, "he added.
"The first change is to achieve a level of awareness and going in the direction that we get people to realize that there is more that unites us and unites us what supposedly makes us different. In making this shift inward, slowly carried out, "he said.
